Application ConsolidationReducing information overload, reducing the overhead on system management, improving integration of data.
The Challenge
Improve the efficiency of technical operations teams,
Improve their visibility of systems,
Automate or streamline processes,
Reduce duplication,
Reduce revenue costs on application subscriptions
The Issue
Monitoring and management systems had been installed piecemeal, in a siloed fashion.
Each team had multiple applications to perform regular, and often related, tasks
Some application functionality overlapped
Team members did not always know which application to use, leading to frustration and conflicting reports
Not all the applications were routinely managed
The Solution
Gather list of all applications used by operations teams
Compare functionality - where it overlapped, check if either application could fulfil all required tasks
Where one suite of applications gained pre-eminence, compare the other applications to it
Using the existing ManageEngine Endpoint Central product, and by purchasing additional modules for it, I was able to remove the requirement for several other applications.
The standalone applications were often more fully featured, but the actual functionality used could be replicated with ManageEngine modules.
The subscriptions for additional modules were cheaper than the cost of existing standalone applications
As associated modules, data was more integrated between them.
Each team was set up with granular RBAC to the same application, sharing access to the same underlying data.
